Four days of ingredients blog series is inspired by my four favorite herbal ingredients. Each day I will break down the selected ingredient with a formal introduction, why it is good for our skin, which Good JuJu Herbal products utilize the ingredient and lastly two ways you can start using it in your daily routine.
Shea Butter comes from the Karite tree, also called the Shea Tree. Shea trees, most commonly the Vitellaria Paradoxa species are confined to growing in Africa. Shea butter is one of the most versatile products to use at home and is still extremely effective when used alone. Shea butter is rich in vitamin A, E and F. It also provides the skin with many essential fatty acids.
Shea butter is deeply moisturizing and protective when applied, it acts as a moisture seal on skin. It Shea butter can help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, as well as being effective to help sooth rough skin patches and Psoriasis.
Good JuJu Herbal uses Shea butter in a vast range of products including Herbal Skin Food moisturizer, Coffee and Cardamom body scrub, Puppy Pad Balm and the Shea butter lip balm. All soaps also have Shea butter and vitamin E oil added for extra skin softening goodness.
Using Shea butter at home
Shea butter is versatile and can be highly effective as a stand alone product. Below is a list of my favorite things you can use Shea butter for by itself. Good JuJu Herbal's belief is simple is better, so hopefully you will be able to replace a few expensive or chemical filled products with just high quality Shea butter. You can purchase Shea butter online at Mountain Rose Herbs or at your local co-op/health food store. Avoid refined Shea butter and try to purchase fair trade when possible.
Simple Shea Butter Uses:
- All over body moisturize/lotion
- Under eye cream, to help reduce bags/wrinkles
- Cuticle cream
- After sun cream
- Directly on lips
- Applied onto eyelids to keep eye makeup on longer.
